The Organic Cosmetics Market Is Growing – Naturally

Organic, Natural and Sustainable; this is how the beauty industry is changing. These are the buzz words in skin and hair care market now a days. From your shampoo to lip shade, everything has turned organic. Market is evolving and moving towards natural formulations instead of chemical-loaded products especially in India where ayurvedic products such as henna, bhringraj oil, fuller earth (multani mitti) etc. have a legacy. Personal health is the main idea behind this paradigm shift as the products applied as being assessed more carefully.

Holistic health has triggered a new interest among consumers. They want to know what ingredients or materials are sourced for their product; how they are made; whom they are made by and whether they will support or damage health in the long term.
Organic and natural cosmetics not only nourish our skin but are chemical free, thus keeping it safe.
Research conducted by Euromonitor states that over half of Indians hair and skin care purchasing decisions are influenced by natural and organic label. 71% of the consumers surveyed said they would buy face cream if it claimed to be natural; 38% preferred to buy shampoo / oil made up of botanical ingredients.

Social media is also a key to the shift in consumer demand as trends are shared more quickly and effectively over there. Beauty bloggers, influencers and celebrities post content related to ‘Organic Cosmetics’ trend which urges people to become more conscious.
Gwyneth Paltrow’s natural, plastic-free beauty line, Goop by Juice Beauty, is prime example of this. In 2016, she told Vogue that, “the idea that you’re exercising and trying to eat well and then slathering yourself with chemicals, parabens and silicones – it’s not great.”

Beauty brands now dedicate entire section to clean cosmetics; HUL launched a new line of natural products ‘Ayush lever’ in consideration of this trend. Sephora also started a line called ‘Clean at Sephora’. The products within this range are free from wide range of sulphites and chemicals, as well as plastics and animal-driven ingredients.
